Product safety and regulation

Read the label.
Control the exposure.

Automotive coatings, solvents, hardeners, aerosols, adhesives, abrasives, and repair materials can present serious health, fire, environmental, and transport hazards.

Before use

The current label, SDS, and TDS control.

Read the complete product label, Safety Data Sheet, and Technical Data Sheet for the exact product and variant before purchase, mixing, application, storage, or disposal. These documents identify hazards, required controls, mixing ratios, compatible components, application limits, first-aid instructions, and emergency information. Request the current documents from the store or manufacturer when they are not already available.

Website content is not a safety instruction.

Catalog descriptions and educational articles are summaries. They do not replace product-specific documents, required training, a workplace hazard-communication program, or the judgment of a qualified safety professional.

Health and exposure

Spray coatings may require engineered controls and specialized protection.

Some polyurethane coatings and hardeners contain isocyanates. OSHA identifies isocyanate exposure as a cause of skin and mucous-membrane irritation, chest tightness, breathing difficulty, occupational asthma, and other lung problems. Other products may present solvent, dust, sensitization, corrosion, eye, skin, or inhalation hazards.

Use only in a setting permitted by the product documentation and applicable rules. Required ventilation, spray enclosure, respiratory protection, eye protection, gloves, protective clothing, exposure monitoring, and worker training depend on the product and work. An employer is responsible for required labels, accessible safety data sheets, training, and its written hazard-communication and respiratory-protection programs.

Fire, ignition, and storage

Treat flammable materials as flammable.

Keep coatings, reducers, solvents, aerosols, and contaminated materials away from heat, sparks, flame, hot surfaces, and incompatible substances. Follow the label and SDS for grounding, bonding, approved storage cabinets, temperature limits, container closure, spill control, and rag or waste handling. Never puncture, incinerate, or heat an aerosol container.

VOC and air-quality rules

Compliance depends on product, use, and location.

Federal VOC standards apply to automobile-refinish coatings, and California’s automotive-refinishing program addresses toxic and VOC emissions. California local air districts can impose additional product, use, recordkeeping, equipment, and permitting rules. A product’s presence in this catalog is not a blanket statement that it is lawful for every use or destination. Confirm current federal, state, and local requirements before purchase and application.

Transport and disposal

Restricted materials require the correct channel.

Aerosols, coatings, solvents, and related materials may be limited to ground transportation, excluded from certain destinations, or subject to quantity and packaging rules. Dispose of unused product, solvent, filters, contaminated absorbents, and containers according to the label, SDS, and applicable hazardous-waste requirements. Do not pour coatings or solvents into drains, soil, or ordinary waste unless expressly permitted.

Exposure, fire, or spill

Use the product-specific emergency instructions.

In an emergency, move to safety only if it can be done without additional exposure, follow the label and SDS, and contact appropriate emergency services. Provide responders with the exact product name and SDS. For non-emergency product-document requests, call (951) 682-1688 or use the contact form.

Request technical or safety documents

Include the exact product title, brand, SKU, and intended use. Store guidance does not replace the current manufacturer documentation or employer safety obligations.
